About the Institute

The aim of Spiral is to promote a meaningful life for mankind in general and contemporary Jews in particular. The world view of Spiral is based upon the teachings of The Yahalom, Rabbi Dr Yehudah Leib (Lionel) Mirvis, founder and Dean of the Spiral Institute for Kabbalah. He evaluates the ancient traditional source material in the writings of Kabbalah in the light of the New Physics, Cognitive Science, In-depth Psychology, Ecology, Cosmology and New Millennium perspectives.

The research is conducted on the basis of SCIENTIFIC METAPHYSICS in which the prolific and varying layers of Mystic symbol-sets are reduced to common denominators expressed in the concepts of contemporary thought.

The Spiral Institute of Kabbalah is a registered non-profit organisation. Established in 1986 in South Africa it conducts regular public lectures and Shiurim, workshops and seminars in South Africa, Israel and England.

Due to the interest in our lectures, the Yahalom, Rabbi Dr Yehudah Leib (Lionel) Mirvis has sought to find ways to disseminate information widely and to give you an opportunity to hear and see him again and again. To this end a number of CD’s and DVD’s are available.

About the Yahalom

Born in South Africa of Jewish Lithuanian stock, with a MitPlaceholder Imagenagdic father who espoused the cause of the modern renaissance of Israel and a Hasssidic mother, whose father Reb Binyomin Hillel was a renowned teacher of the Habad school of thought. From this complement of opposites comes the motivating force to seek and teach harmony through unity in a world torn apart by conflicting interests.

On the side of physicality, The Yahalom is a qualified Civil and Structural Engineer with many years of experience in the field of reinforced concrete design.

On the side of spirituality, the four academic Degrees in the Humanities provide the grounding for his knowledge of metaphysics. His intensive Torah study culminated in Smicha from leading Rabbinic authorities in Israel. He has served as Minister to three major Orthodox congregations in South Africa, as Army and Prison Chaplain, and as Dayan on the Cape Beth Din under Av Beth Din Rabbi EJ Duschinsky z"l. He has lectured in the Department of Religious Studies at the University of Cape Town and designed their courses for Jewish Studies including Kabbalah. He founded the Spiral Institute for Kabbalah in 1986.
